Our new challenge for you today is

D =

Dark Colours
- think Halloween/Autumn colours!

So you can enter the challenge with ANY project you like as long as you coloured it with a medium (pencils, markers, inks, paints, whatever you like) - our only other rule is that you can only enter twice!
CLOSING DATE: SAT 24 OCT AT NOON GMT - WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON THE FOLLOWING POST

Prize 1: You can a great digi bundle for the Sponsor's Melonheadz digi store, who are our sponsors for this week - we will choose a winner via Random.org

Prize 2: We also have some Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour pencils to give away - to win this you need to be in the UK so please add UK next to your name in your entry - if you're in the UK and don't add it after your name we won't count you in the draw and you could miss out.  Again we will choose a winner via Random.org

So let's see what the Design Team have made this week!

Scatty Jan Ohhh think darks was a bit tricky for me I soooo wanted to add some lights in. I used the lovely Witches clothes Line bundle adding in a few cut spiders/ bats/web/grass and gravestone.  I added in a few bubbles to the cauldron and to give some background

The colours I used are
Purples 033/034/035
Greens 073/074/075
Greys 097/098/199
Blues 049/050/051
Orange 009/013/015
Skin 030/032/076/094
White 001

Yvonne - Hello there! I am on holiday but still had time to play with this fab bundle from Melonheadz called  Halloween String Beans and these are so much fun! I loved colouring these up.  I opted to make a stepped step card - as I thought their long legs would lend themselves well to the stepped card.   I used papers from the Polkadoodles Halloween Papers bundle 1 and 2, the pumpkins and sentiment is from this too, you can see the range here.  All the colour combos and close ups of the images are on my blog!

Susan - The images I have used are from the Feelin Witchy Bundle I had so much fun playing with these images....

these are the pencils I have used
Skin - 32 ,31 ,30
Hair - 75
Greens - 68 , 67, 70 ,71
Burnt Ochre ,87
Delft Blue ,41

Nikky...It can be a bit tricky when you think 'Darks' but you can actually achieve this quite easily - really it just means contrast, if you get really good contrast between light and dark this will make your image really pop and the darks then become much darker without really being too hard to achieve. Optical illusion!
I adored this image from our lovely sponsor Melonheadz...this was from the Wizards Bundle here - they supply you with a bundle with little supporting elements so I pulled them all together in Word and just made my own little scene....I should probably have gone much darker but I really wanted to get a nice glow effect going on...
Colours I used are (sorry this might not be 100% as I forgot to write them down!)
Skin: 82 Brown Ochre, Umber, Light Carmine
Clothes: 55 Night Green, Violet
Cauldron & Cat: Black with a little Violet added
Bubbles: Night green, Veridien, Violet, Gold ochre
Background: Gold ochre, light carmine
White 01 to blend

Cara....I used the Halloween Stuff bundle by Melonheadz, I absolutely adored working wit the images, I combined two of the Zombie images, I think they are adorable and a bit like me and my husband.  I used my browns for shading on this card as I wanted the colours to look quite dirty ... as zombies do of course!

Pencils used:
Skin: 68,73,76
Browns: 75,76
Orange: 13,15,17,76
Blue: 44,51,Black

Challenge 3 is still open for entries until NOON GMT today, 10th October and can be found on the post below so chance for a last minute entry if you missed it last time!!

So let's get to the Design Team's gorgeous makes for this challenge!...
Scatty Jan I adored colouring my image this week - This one is called Autumn Fall reading and you can find her in the store here . I love using the Autumn colours in the pencils apart from the skin colours I used pencils from the 24 set.....
Colours I have used:
Skin Light skin/Dark Skin/Indian Red/Purple
Hair Dark Sepia/Van Dyck Brown/Gold Ochre
Light Blue/True Blue
Venitan Red /Pompeian Red
Sap Green/Apple Green
Light Orange/Dark Orange

Cara - For my image I went for alternate autumn colours, I was thinking frosty mornings ect,
as the image has some quite large areas for the background I used some Sansador and a paper stump to blend.  I also made use of my White Graph'it shake marker to add details and my Gold glitter Shake pen to go around the border.  I also went over all of the details with a black fine liner to define the image more as sometimes I go over the lines and they get all faded.

Pencils used:
Sky/Background: Black, White, light grey, Blue Violet, Prussian blue, Light Blue
Skin: Venetian Red, Burnt Ochre, White
Dresses: Blue Violet, Dark Grey, Black, Light Blue, White

Yvonne - I got to play with this fabulous image called 'Autumn Fall Girl Reading' which you can get here. I loved this image and it was so easy to colour, I made a 7x7 card.
I coloured the image with the following pencils:

Grass and bushes & leaves: 68, 70, 71, 82

Nikky....I went for Creepy Autumn colours for this challenge, I adore this image from our sponsor, it was perfect for this challenge.
I really wanted to get a nice glow from the fairy wand so I left that area right to the end to make sure I could really get some great blending. I really didnt use that many colours on this image and just laid down lots and lots of layers to build up the colour...I don't know what paper I'd printed this on but it was pretty awful & didn't give a lot of tooth so I need to get rid so I don't end up with more LOL!....
Colours I used: Skin Fairy: 31 Medium Flesh, 82 Brown Ochre, 76 VD brown, 27 Lt Carmine cheeks

The Lyra Splender Blender is reknowned as being the best pencil blender available and is widely used by Artist's with other brands of pencils too...
These great pencils are really smooth and buttery in texture and consistency and offer a fantastic range of bright, vibrant colours which blend really easily and work on a fantastic array of different surfaces.
They are German manufactured which means superior quality to many other well known brands and being high on the Lightfast Scale means that unlike many other brands you can be assured if you colour an image with Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour the image wont be all faded in 2 days from sitting on a windowsill - UBER important to us as crafters!
The points stay much sharper than many other pencils and they have fantastic quality leads which are water resistant and don't give wax build-up to give you that 'blooming' effect many other pencils are synonymous with.
Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour will also combine with your other oil-based pencil brands too, expanding the range of colours you might have in your collection.

Nikky...Unfortunately I havent been able to make a full project this week, but it's all about the colouring, right? This image was actually the first one I coloured with my Rembrandt Polycolour 2or 3 months back when I first got them and it blew me away with the vibrancy of colour...
There are a few things I'd change about it but for me the first time you pick up a new tool to use it the results are always really important for me so I wanted to share this with you. This image is also on a really smooth paper (my 160gsm Ultimate Graphic) which doesnt have too much tooth but it still produces amazing results which is testament to the quality of the pencil. I can't remember all the colours I used unfortunately as I didnt write them down at the time stupid me *bashes self around face with a wet fish*....(image Oddella from Polkadoodles).
I really hope you can join me on Create and Craft on Thursday where I'll be able to show you more in the flesh! The biggest thing I love about any kind of pencil is the texture - if you want smooth you can use a marker but to really add depth and major texture use a pencil and for me, I think that makes great results more achievable, especially if you are a learner and less confident or struggle with your blending.

Scatty Jan  Ohhhh lovely challenge Bright Colours . I decided to make a little bag which I cut on my portrait . I then coloured up the wonderful digi from the Serenity Collection from Polkadoodles She is a dream to colour up using the pencils . I finished off adding Glamour dust to her wings for a little sparkle.
The colours I have used are
Skin 032/092/032/094
Blues 53/554/55
Pinks 28/29/93

Cara - I love love love bright colours and these pencils are so vibrant it makes this challenge a breeze! I used this chance to stretch out summer a little longer and make a very sunshiney card!

Hat: Burnt Ochre, Raw Umber, Van Dyck Brown
Hair and Skirt: Burnt Ochre, Ochre, Dark Orange, Light Orange

Yvonne - Hello there everyone! I have been having so much fun with these pencils and I decided for my 'bright' challenge I would go for the pinks, you can achieve really deep and pastel tones with these pencils and for a lover of all things pink - that's a huge tick box for me! I coloured Serenity Fairy Kisses from the Serenity Collection.

Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour pencils are available from

and other good Art & Craft stores across the UK.
If you are a retailer and would like to stock this product please contact us HERE.

So let's get to the first challenge!

This week our challenge is

A = ANYTHING GOES

So you can enter the challenge with ANY project you like as long as you coloured it with a medium
(pencils, markers, inks, paints, whatever you like) - our only rule is that you can only enter twice!
CLOSING DATE: SAT 12 SEPT AT NOON GMT - WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON THE FOLLOWING POST
Prizes: You can win a $10 voucher for the Polkadoodles digi store, who are our sponsors for this week - we will choose a winner via Random.org
We also have a set of 12 Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour pencils to give away - to win this you need to be in the UK so please add UK next to your name in your entry. Again we will choose a winner via Random.org

So let's see what the team have made!

Nikky...I am so excited to be able to show you this fab range of pencils. I've been using a couple of other brands for years and I have to say that these exceeded my expectations considering the price of them - high quality for a low price and that's a winner in my book! So it was always a bit of a given that I was going to fall in love with these, wasn't it!
If you want to see more about the Rembrandt Polycolour range you can see a little short video I made just to show and introduce you to them here

I made a different image for this challenge but then I was playing around the other day with some ice effects and I thought I'd use this instead for my first make because it really shows you what you can do with these pencils I think....I have to thank Alyce Keegan for inspiring me with the ice, I was just doodling and wanted to make a kind of ice sculpture effect so it was a little weird! When I came to make the card I decided to cut the image out and bend the flower backwards, so this card is actually an easel folded although you can't really tell. I was so pleased I cut her out because it made the whole thing really 3D, goes to show what a little cutting can do....
The image is from the Polkadoodles Octavia Frosted Winter collection HERE.
I am ashamed to say I got so carried away with my colouring that as usual I forgot to write the colours down, shame on me! I actually coloured this on our 160gsm Ultimate Graphic paper which is very smooth but not quite super smooth. It just has enough tooth for me but I am definitely playing around with different papers and board to get different effects. If you don't understand what 'Tooth' means - it's the amount of layers of fibre within the paper - the more layers you have the more pigment you can lay down...think of it like little cells that have to absorb the colour - so the more cells and layers, the more colour you can lay down. Lots of people love watercolour board but this gives you loads of texture so just play around and find what YOU like, there is no right or wrong!
What I love about these pencils is the lumosity and vibrance of colour - the ice actually looks transparent here and believe me it's not, it's just the turquoises and blues on white card...

From memory I know I used: skin - medium flesh, brown ochre, rose madder lake, van dyck brown
Hair and Coat: the 3 purple tones that are actually more red!
clothing: the aqua colours - turquoise, peacock blue etc
boots and fur: blue violet, violet and aqua/turquoise

Caroline...I used an image called Shining Spines from the Polkadoodles Octavia Frosted Winter Collection - all the backing papers are also from the same cd....
The pencils handle like a dream, im very new to pencils so was thrilled to be part of the team and have found them easier to use than a lot of other brands on the market as they seem to blend easier.
Colours used: skin: burnt ochre, pulled in with blender pencil and tinge of light carmine
hair: raw umber and gold umber
clothes: true blue, light blue, dark carmine, light carmine, silver grey
hedgehog: van dyck brown, gold ochre

Scatty Jan For my first project I have coloured in the lovely Serenity Stardust you can find her in the Polkadoodles store here .  I am so pleased to be on the DT for The Pencil Case, we have all had lots of fun trying them all out and coming up with new colour combos. They really are wonderful pencils that blend very easily. I am so looking forward to sharing more of my projects with you....
The colours I used are:
Skin 030/092/094/031/084
Hair 080/082/083/076
Reds 021/018
Blues 47/49/51
Moon & Stars 002/007/006/008/009/087

Susan ....I was over the moon when Nikky asked if I would Like to try these amazing Pencils and be part of a new Design Team - of course I said yes!  They really are a dream to work with and so creamy and vibrant ,they layer and blend beautifully. I have been using different brands of pencils for about 6 months now, and spent a fortune on them, just wish I had chosen these from the start ! The pencils I used were:

Sea and Bubbles: White, Light Blue, Prussian Blue, Apple Green, Burnt ochre

Lou: Hi everyone, I'm also very pleased to be here too especially as I am a crafter who prefers to colour with pencils and was ecstatic to be asked to use the Lyra pencils. I was blown away with the results and how easy it was to blend with the pencils ... minimum effect which is right up my street! I have used one of the Polkadoodles Ickyink Art Images, Oddella Twig for my card ...
