Wk1 A = Anything Goes Craft challenge at The Pencil Case

Welcome to the brand new Crafting Challenge here at

The Pencil Case!

Our lovely Design Team members are all here to show you how amazing
Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour Pencils are and to show you some fun ways of using pencils along the way!!

THE PENCIL CASE FACEBOOK GROUP IS HERE - PLEASE JOIN US!

This oil based range of pencils have been around for many years and are tried and tested Artist's Quality LIGHTFAST pencils which you will love! They have always been quite difficult to get hold of here in the UK but Premium Art Brands are now the UK Distributor for this great range - and we're here to show you how lovely they are!
The Lyra Splender Blender is reknowned as being the best pencil blender available and is widely used by Artist's with other brands of pencils too...
These great pencils are really smooth and buttery in texture and consistency and offer a fantastic range of bright, vibrant colours which blend really easily and work on a fantastic array of different surfaces.
They are German manufactured which means superior quality to many other well known brands and being Lightfast means that unlike other brands you can be assured if you colour an image with Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour the image wont be all faded in 2 days from sitting on a windowsill - UBER important to us as crafters!
The points stay much sharper than many other pencils and they have fantastic quality leads which are water resistant and don't give wax build-up to give you that 'blooming' effect many other pencils are synonymous with.
Rembrandt Polycolour will also combine with your other oil-based pencil brands too, expanding the range of colours you might have in your collection.

Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour pencils are available from

and other good Art & Craft stores across the UK.
If you are a retailer and would like to stock this product please contact us HERE.

So let's get to the first challenge!

We also have a set of 12 Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour pencils to give away - to win this you need to be in the UK so please add UK next to your name in your entry. Again we will choose a winner via Random.org

So let's see what the team have made!

Nikky...I am so excited to be able to show you this fab range of pencils. I've been using a couple of other brands for years and I have to say that these exceeded my expectations considering the price of them - high quality for a low price and that's a winner in my book! So it was always a bit of a given that I was going to fall in love with these, wasn't it!
If you want to see more about the Rembrandt Polycolour range you can see a little short video I made just to show and introduce you to them here

I made a different image for this challenge but then I was playing around the other day with some ice effects and I thought I'd use this instead for my first make because it really shows you what you can do with these pencils I think....I have to thank Alyce Keegan for inspiring me with the ice, I was just doodling and wanted to make a kind of ice sculpture effect so it was a little weird! When I came to make the card I decided to cut the image out and bend the flower backwards, so this card is actually an easel folded although you can't really tell. I was so pleased I cut her out because it made the whole thing really 3D, goes to show what a little cutting can do....
The image is from the Polkadoodles Octavia Frosted Winter collection HERE.
I am ashamed to say I got so carried away with my colouring that as usual I forgot to write the colours down, shame on me! I actually coloured this on our 160gsm Ultimate Graphic paper which is very smooth but not quite super smooth. It just has enough tooth for me but I am definitely playing around with different papers and board to get different effects. If you don't understand what 'Tooth' means - it's the amount of layers of fibre within the paper - the more layers you have the more pigment you can lay down...think of it like little cells that have to absorb the colour - so the more cells and layers, the more colour you can lay down. Lots of people love watercolour board but this gives you loads of texture so just play around and find what YOU like, there is no right or wrong!
What I love about these pencils is the lumosity and vibrance of colour - the ice actually looks transparent here and believe me it's not, it's just the turquoises and blues on white card...

From memory I know I used: skin - medium flesh, brown ochre, rose madder lake, van dyck brown
Hair and Coat: the 3 purple tones that are actually more red!
clothing: the aqua colours - turquoise, peacock blue etc
boots and fur: blue violet, violet and aqua/turquoise

Caroline...I used an image called Shining Spines from the Polkadoodles Octavia Frosted Winter Collection - all the backing papers are also from the same cd....
The pencils handle like a dream, im very new to pencils so was thrilled to be part of the team and have found them easier to use than a lot of other brands on the market as they seem to blend easier.
Colours used: skin: burnt ochre, pulled in with blender pencil and tinge of light carmine
hair: raw umber and gold umber
clothes: true blue, light blue, dark carmine, light carmine, silver grey
hedgehog: van dyck brown, gold ochre

Scatty Jan For my first project I have coloured in the lovely Serenity Stardust you can find her in the Polkadoodles store here .  I am so pleased to be on the DT for The Pencil Case, we have all had lots of fun trying them all out and coming up with new colour combos. They are a joy to work with and I am super excited to share my ideas on using them with you!  Here is my first project using the super sweet Mermaid digi stamp by Polkadoodles.  I decided to try my pencils on Kraft card and I also drew bubbles with my pencils to create an underwater scene, I hope you like the results.
